Monarch Migrants

Brief Description: Monarch Migrant painting draws attention to the dangers the Monarch butterfly faces in their migration due to climate change, it also tries to draw a correlation with the perils and difficulties of the migrants at our southern borders. The painting has two hand-drawn maps correlating the journey of the monarchs and the other pointing to the location of deaths of the migrants crossing the Sonoran Desert near the US-Mexico border. The butterfly wings have images of hope, kindness, and resilience contemplating current escalation of border enforcement activity in the U.S. and stressing on the interdependence of species and the earth. The net attached to the painting depicts the obstacles the butterfly and migrants face, yet life endures all challenges and obstacles and emerges to seek freedom to continue their migration journey.
